On Thursday, February 11, 2022, the Armenian Catholic Church of the Holy Martyrs of Gyumri hosted the Catholic Academic Service for Foreigners (KAAD/Katholischer Akademischer Ausländer-Dienst), a German organization.
KAAD is a scholarship organization for the German Catholic Church for postgraduate students and researchers in Asia, Africa, Latin America, the Middle East, Eastern and Southeastern Europe.
KAAD originated in 1954 at the initiative of the Catholic Church in Fulda. In 1958, it was registered as a non-profit association based in Bonn.
During the visit, a Holy Mass was served by the Mons. Fr. Garnik Hovsepian, the Vicar of the Ordinary of Armenian Catholics of Armenia, with the concelebration of Fr. Grigor Mkrtchyan, the Parish Priest of the Holy Martyrs Cathedral. After the spiritual readings, Mons. Fr. Garnik Hovsepian greeted the guests, emphasizing the importance of their mission in Armenia for the Armenian youth.
In his speech, the Mons. Fr. Garnik emphasized the message of Christ’s love. “Love one another, as I have loved you.” Mons. Fr. Garnik expressed hope that this cooperation will be continuous.
After the Holy Mass, Fr. Grigor presented the history of the construction of the Armenian Catholic Ordinariate and the Throne Church.
At the end of the meeting, Markus Laibach, Head of the section Eastern Europe organization’s, thanked the clergy for their hospitality and presented the organization with a 2021 Annual Report.
It should be noted that the members of the organization are participating in the Regional Conference on February 10-13, 2022, which is being held in Gyumri.
