Archbishop Kevork Noradounguian Attended the 2026 “Prayer Breakfast” Event

On October 2, 2026, His Excellency Archbishop Kevork Noradounguian participated in the event of “Prayer Breakfast”, which was organized for the second consecutive year by the “Spiritual Club of Laymen”, a non-governmental organization, under state sponsorship and with the participation of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia. As reported on the official website of the Government of the Republic of Armenia, the official dinner, organized within the framework of this second Prayer Breakfast, was also attended by the Bishops of the Armenian Apostolic Church, along with high-ranking officials from Armenia and abroad, statesmen, and representatives from diplomatic and business circles.

The Republic of Armenia Prayer Breakfast (RAPB) is an international, independent, and civil society-initiated two-day event dedicated to prayer, faith, leadership, religious freedom, peace, and the future of Armenia. The event also serves as a platform for dialogue and cooperation among representatives of various political, national, denominational, and religious circles.

The Prayer Breakfast was solemnly opened with a prayer and blessing by His Excellency Archbishop Kevork Noradounguian.

Speeches were delivered by Riley Barnes, Assistant Secretary for the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor at the U.S. Department of State; Asif Mahmood, Chair of the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom; and Stepan Sargsyan, President of the “Spiritual Club of Laymen” NGO.

Prime Minister Mr. Nikol Pashinyan also delivered a speech and welcomed those present. Nikol Pashinyan emphasized that, in his view, this is a format where people are free to speak and share stories about God, their spiritual perceptions, and personal experiences. “Today’s Republic of Armenia is the expression of our Christian essence; it is our Promised Land. We speak about the spiritual life of our country, but we must face several important facts,” Pashinyan said. According to him, the first fact is that the Armenian people lived for around 70 years in the USSR, which was an atheistic state where the word “believer” carried a negative perception. Those who relied on God were rejected by the state, and believers in the USSR were marginalized and isolated, kept at the fringes of society. “After independence, this trend may have softened, but it has not completely changed. Even today, there is a negative undertone in the word ‘believer,’ because there are believers, and then there are the other citizens. It is my conviction that a citizen of the Republic of Armenia should believe in God, because our state is our Promised Land, and our language is the pillar of our identity. Today, there is an active spiritual life in our churches and other places, but the problem is that spiritual life is largely confined to church life and remains mostly inside the church. However, it is very important that this spiritual life steps outside the church and enters the streets, homes, markets, local self-government bodies, government, and the legislative, executive, and judicial branches. A person will most likely be far more ethical if they believe in God. A person will be less vulnerable to corruption risks if they believe in God,” said Mr. Pashinyan. He concluded his remarks with Psalm 29, known as a Prayer of Thanksgiving.

Sources: <a style="color: #0000ff;"
